Banner Elk map

We flew to Greenville Spartanburg, SC, rented a car and drove up to Banner Elk, NC. We stayed in the mountain house of a fellow I knew from college. We were in the same dormitory for four years at UNC-Chapel Hill. The map mostly shows western North Carolina. The red star marks Banner Elk, a town of about 800. The light blue line just west of Banner Elk is the Tennessee line. Banner Elk is in the Blue Ridge mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway is very close by. Banner Elk is at 3700' elevation which is cool in the summer and does not require air conditioning. This trip made a nice escape from the Texas heat. The big town is Boone; 17 miles and 13,000 people.
